[Open Combat] Gaming Night 4

Another night of Open Combat, another night of awesome gaming fun!
This week saw my Chaos Warriors raid Ba'la's Orcs in their village - the terrain was an absolute treat to play on, and really brought our games to life.
Ba'la's Orcs were able to defeat the Chaos Warriors in protection of their village, but their respite was short, as they were immediately attacked by a band of holy knights soon after, who were able to dispense fanatical justice!

[Open Combat] Chaos Warriors - Champion

I thought this model, which is the Slaughterpriest with Hackblade and Wrath-hammer model from Games Workshop (and was included free with an issue of White Dwarf), would make a great addition to my Chaos Warriors for Open Combat, so that meant it was time to get him assembled and painted for the tabletop!

This is fantastic model, with lots of character - in my mind's eye, don't see him as a priest, but as a mighty barbarian champion of Chaos, blessed of his foul god - and standing tall on his 40mm base, he is well suited to lead my Chaos Warrior warband into battle!

[Open Combat] Stormcast Eternals

My next warband is comprised of the other half of the Age of Sigmar starter set - Stormcast Eternals! The warband is made up of a Liberator Prime (Leader), two Liberators and two Retributors.

This warband is only five-strong because the models are all on 40mm bases (which does take significant space on a 2'x2' board) and also fits with the lore of the Stormcast Eternals - super-elite warriors, wielding the finest armour and weapons.

[Age of Sigmar] Model Size Comparison

I'd seen some Kings of War armies online, using Stormcast Eternals as Ogres, and after assembling my own Stormcast Eternals recently I thought I'd compare the model size.

To my eye the Stormcast Eternals make a good 'counts-as' Ogre model (size-wise anyway) and the fact that they both come on 40mm bases makes the substitution pretty solid.

I had a Chaos Marauder and Chaos Warrior on my desk at the time of snapping this photo, so they're in the picture getting their photobomb on.
Looking at the picture now, I wonder why the Chaos Warriors aren't on 40mm bases along with the Stormcast Eternals.

[Dragon Rampant] Age of Sigmar Armies WIP

After finishing my Chaos Warrior warband for Open Combat, I thought I would FINALLY assemble the models from the Age of Sigmar starter set I had lying around.

I plan on using these models for Dragon Rampant, a system I've been interested in for a while, so here's hoping that this project doesn't fall by the wayside!
Alternatively, I can use the models as additions to my Open Combat warbands.

Khorne Bloodbound - Mighty Khorne Lord. Khorgorath, Bloodsecrator,
Bloodstoker, 2 Blood Warriors and 5 Bloodreavers

Stormcast Eternals - 10 Liberators

[Open Combat] Gaming Night 3

Played an awesome game of Open Combat over the long weekend, with my newly painted Chaos Warriors!
In spite of terrible dice rolls, my opponent was able to take a decisive win against my new warband - a well earned victory for the Orcs.

[Open Combat] Chaos Warriors

Finished up another warband for Open Combat last week, and snapped a photo over the long weekend - my Chaos Warriors!

Once again, Open Combat has motivated me to dust off models from another failed project - these models are from the Age of Sigmar starter set.

[Open Combat] Dwarves

This was actually my first warband for Open Combat, but I've been dragging my feet on snapping a photo - so here is my seven-strong Dwarven warband for Open Combat!

These are made up from the Avatars of War range of Dwarves, and were intended to be a Kings of War Dwarf army (for the original 1st edition of the system!) but never saw the table, so it was awesome to actually get these stunties painted and onto the tabletop.

[Open Combat] More Games

I had another great night of gaming playing Open Combat, managing to squeeze in two games on a cold Saturday night.

In the first game my newly painted Elven warband took on Hun'ta and his band of Orcs in the Capture scenario, which ended HILARIOUSLY as one of my Elven Rangers, with assistance from the Elven Captain, shot an Orc (carrying an objective) off the board, allowing the Orcs to claim the win!

The second game was the standard Kill game, with my Dwarves (with an extra Warrior) stealing victory against Hun'ta and his warband.

Here are some photos - I'm already working on my next warband for Open Combat, so stay tuned!

[Open Combat] Elves

My next warband for Open Combat are Elves! I love these models, and have had them lying around for ages, but haven't had the motivation to paint them - until I discovered Open Combat!

[Open Combat] First Game!

A new local gaming club has started up nearby, so I spent a few hours on Saturday night playing my first game of Open Combat!

We made a LOT of mistakes, but had a really great time - and are we're both working on new warbands and looking forward to our next game.

[Deadzone] Starting Forge Fathers Strike Team

Here's my starting Forge Father Strike Team at 100 points.
I thought I'd put my faith in Mantic Games, and start with the example Forge Father list that they've recommended in the rulebook.

Deadzone Ready!

I backed the Deadzone v1 Kickstarter back in June of 2013, and it's taken me this long to finally paint some Deadzone models!
I should point out that these aren't the models that came with my Strike Pledge (those models are still mocking me from my pile of shame), but part of the new Forge Father Starter Set that I picked up after Deadzone v2 was released - I couldn't resist sci-fi stunties!

When Deadzone v2 was released, Mantic Games was awesome enough to send everyone that backed Deadzone v1 a PDF copy of the rules, so I printed out the rules and sleeved them in a display book.
Now, all I needed to play Deadzone v2 was the Command Dice and Token Set, which I picked up yesterday!
I have the very high quality Deluxe Gaming Mat, and have the awesome Deadzone terrain that came with my Strike Pledge all assembled (meaning to use them for MERCS), so I'm all set for Deadzone terrain!

Anyways, I'll post up some individual model photos of my 100 point Forge Father Strike Team soon - stay tuned!

[KoW] Filthy Moon Tribe - Spitters

Here are my three Spitter regiments for Kings of War, which are the Goblin Archer models from the Battle of Skull Pass set.

I didn't add too much yellow, and chose to keep the arrows red so that it would be easier to distinguish these models from my Rabble regiments.

Well, that rounds off the infantry units I have planned for my army - next I'll be painting through some of the goblin character models I've got lying around, and working on some objective markers too!

[KoW] Filthy Moon Tribe - Rabble

Since posting my initial photo I've slowly been repainting the Goblin Spearmen from my Battle of Skull Pass sets (I have two sets), and I've finally finished all 6 regiments, or 3 Hordes, for Kings of War.

I also decided I would colour the eyes, which is something I generally avoid, but it wasn't so bad once I got the process down.

For Kings of War I'll be using these troops as Rabble, as opposed to Sharpsticks (even though they clearly have spears) because that allows me to field more goblin infantry as part of my Goblin army!

Next up, the Goblin Archers!

[KoW] Filthy Moon Tribe

The urge to paint fantasy models has been gnawing at me, so after a long hiatus from the hobby, I picked up the brush and painted (well, repainted) a regiment of goblins I had lying around.

These are the old goblins from the Battle for Skull Pass set for WHFB, which I think are great for getting a lot of great looking infantry tabletop ready quickly.

I originally had these models painted with a MUCH darker colour scheme, which is how I envisioned my goblin army to be, but I think they were a little too dark for the tabletop.
So I added a little more colour with the purple spears, and added a lot more colour in the dirty yellow moons.

Original colour scheme on the left, versus the new colour scheme on the right

With about 120 more models to repaint in this colour scheme, I've got my fingers crossed I have the drive to finish off the entire army!
