Cryx - Skarlock

I stuck to a fairly simple paint job on the Skarlock, but I think it looks decent. At first I was really worried that the bright pink/purple would be too dominating, but looking at the model in my hand I think it's evenly balanced.

It's a very dynamically posed model and was difficult to assemble, but I managed to assemble it just using superglue with no pinning involved.

With the completion of this single model, which will be proxied as a Machine Wraith at the 15 point game level, I've hit the 15 point army achievement! The next step up to 25 points will see me having to complete 12 models, which is the highest model count iteration of the Journeyman League - stay tuned!

Speedy Service

Yesterday night I got home from work and was ecstatic to find that the order I had placed with Defiant Gaming had already arrived! I posted this order LESS THAN 48 hours ago, and it's already in my over-excited hands! Great prices, excellent customer service and speedy delivery - what more could you want!

I mentioned in the earlier post that the Warmachine Two Player Battle Set is a wedding anniversary gift from my awesome wife, so I'm not allowed to open that for a few weeks - but until then I'll be working on my Cryx in preparation for the upcoming Journeyman League.

Lots more table-top action to come - stick around!

Cryx - Skarlock WIP

Here's the Skarlock after assembly and undercoating. I don't bother undercoating just one model at a time, so I assembled and undercoated my Bane Thrall Officer and Standard as well.

The next increment after Battlebox games in the upcoming Journeyman League is 15 points. The Cryx Battlebox comes with 14 points worth of models, so there are several choices for units at 1 point. After reading a few suggestions online, I opted for the Machine Wraith - which I will be proxying with the Skarlock.

Cryx - Battlegroup Achievement!

With the completion of my Cryx Battlegroup, I'm ready for the first week of the local Journeyman League coming up! Still a whole lot more Cryx to go until I finish my planned 35 point army, so I'm going to try and keep my momentum going and get this army done.

I'm really proud of this achievement, and feel that I'm well on the way to actually finishing this army. I'm enjoying painting these models, which is a huge factor in helping me keep my motivation and momentum - and having a Journeyman League to work towards provides fantastic motivation too.

Warmachine Incoming!

My wife has no interest in miniature wargaming, except that she knows it makes me happy. I don't know why she needs so many shoes, but that makes her happy :) So, as long as we don't break the bank, I let her shop, and she lets me indulge in my toy soldiers.
So when she asked me what I wanted as a gift for our upcoming wedding anniversary, I couldn't think of anything cooler than getting the Warmachine Two Player Battle Box!

After numerous annoying emails from myself, Dan from Defiant Gaming informed me that he had received a restock of the Warmachine Two Player Battle Box, as well as some other models I thought I'd grab to bolster the Khador side of things. Within the hour my order was processed, and is now en route to me as I type - again more fantastic customer service from Defiant Gaming!

So, plenty more Warmachine action to come!

Cryx - Deneghra

Finishing off Deneghra didn't take much longer - a few touch-ups and highlights and the painting was done! With her basing done too, she's now ready to lead my Cryx into battle!

I really like her pose - commanding, powerful and steadfast. I'm surprisingly proud of the blends I achieved on her cloak, so it seems that all that practice on the Bonejacks and Helljack paid off :)

So that's my Battlegroup set completed, and I'll be snapping some photos of them all together to mark the achievement!

Cryx - Deneghra WIP

This took me all night, so I thought I'd take some photos to document the progress. I've found that taking WIP shots help me to see what needs to be done, or redone, and helps me to step back and get some perspective on the model as a whole.

I think I'm happy with Deneghra's billowing cloak - I'll add some more highlights on the back, and her greaves, vambraces and mask still need their highlights too. Oh, and her basing needs to be done as well.

I'll finish these off tonight and hopefully have some photos up tomorrow!

Cryx - Slayer

Slayer completed! He took all my free time over the last couple of days to finish, but I'm happy with how he turned out. I'll probably go back over his wet-blends again, with a few bits here and there nagging at me.

Overall I'm really happy with how he turned out, and am glad I was able to practice my blends on the Bonejacks first. The Slayer had so many more surfaces to highlight, so it was good practice to paint the little guys first.

Might do a quick comparison post of the WIP shot and these completed shots, mostly cause I'm interested in the difference the washes and highlights make.

Cryx - Slayer WIP

Here are some WIP shots of my Slayer I snapped while I had my camera out. So far he's just basecoated, except for his pink/purple glow, which I do before basecoating - the purple wash tends to mess up everything around it.

Looking a bit flat, and the metallics are way too shiny - so it's washing, clean-up then highlights to go. I think it would be interesting to see some before and after shots, so I'll do that in a future post.
