Cryx - Bane Thralls (Min)

I thought completing a min unit of Bane Thralls was enough of an achievement to warrant an update post, even though my planned army list has a max unit. With four more grunts to go, I'll post again when I get the whole unit done!

I'm going to try batch paint the last four guys, as I feel I can get a pretty good rhythm going on. I've blocked off my time tomorrow morning, so I'm hoping to be able to finish off the entire unit then - wish me luck!

Sync's Terrain

I also decided I'd make a separate page for my terrain, compiling all my previous adventures with terrain and adding any future shenanigans in terrain I might have.

It's mostly terrain for MERCS, a sci-fi skirmish game - but I do have in my possession an array of terrain that I plan on building and using for Warmachine and Kings of War. That is - if I can take myself away from the backlog of army painting I have 'planned'.

So check it out here, or click the link on the right-side of the page!

Sync's MERCS

I spent a stint this year thoroughly engrossed in the world of MERCS - a fantastic skirmish miniature wargame. I blogged about it over here, and have spent some time over the last few days compiling all the notable posts from that blog into a page on this blog.
I've got a Basic Rules Overview, Miniature Scale Comparisons and some Battle Reports - as well as photos of my own MERCS.

So check it out here, or click the link on the right-side of the page!

Cryx - Bane Thrall Test

I finished up my test Bane Thrall grunt last night, and decided to sleep on it and reassess how I think it looks today. I decided I'm happy with it, and will be painting the rest of the unit to this standard.

I kept the highlighting techniques to a minimum as I don't want to spend too much time on each model in the unit. In my experience, that's how I lose my painting momentum - so with my squads I try and keep a "Just Get Them on the Table!"mentality.
Highlighting on the cloaks do absolute wonders for the models though, so I plan on coming back to add that detail some time in the near future.

Cryx - Bane Thalls WIP

I spent the better part of my Sunday afternoon working on my Bane Thralls unit, pictured above. The box set comes with 9 grunts in three variants, and 1 leader pictured on the right
My least favorite part of the hobby is assembling, especially since I particularly hate working with metal models. With the hard part is over, it's onto the fun part - painting!

Just before sundown I managed to get an undercoat on them too, and I plan on getting up early tomorrow morning to start painting them up - stay tuned, lots more painting to come!

Cryx - 15 point Achievement!

Decided to snap some photos of my 15 point army, to mark the achievement and add the photos to my Cryx army progression page.

Next up, Bane Thralls (1 Leader and 9 Grunts) as well as the Bane Thralls Officer and Standard, to bring my army up to the 25 point level!

Cryx - Skarlock

I stuck to a fairly simple paint job on the Skarlock, but I think it looks decent. At first I was really worried that the bright pink/purple would be too dominating, but looking at the model in my hand I think it's evenly balanced.

It's a very dynamically posed model and was difficult to assemble, but I managed to assemble it just using superglue with no pinning involved.

With the completion of this single model, which will be proxied as a Machine Wraith at the 15 point game level, I've hit the 15 point army achievement! The next step up to 25 points will see me having to complete 12 models, which is the highest model count iteration of the Journeyman League - stay tuned!

Speedy Service

Yesterday night I got home from work and was ecstatic to find that the order I had placed with Defiant Gaming had already arrived! I posted this order LESS THAN 48 hours ago, and it's already in my over-excited hands! Great prices, excellent customer service and speedy delivery - what more could you want!

I mentioned in the earlier post that the Warmachine Two Player Battle Set is a wedding anniversary gift from my awesome wife, so I'm not allowed to open that for a few weeks - but until then I'll be working on my Cryx in preparation for the upcoming Journeyman League.

Lots more table-top action to come - stick around!
