Chaos Daemon Prince - Assembled

I thought I'd throw up an assembly shot of my Chaos Daemon Prince, next to one of my Chaos Space Marines for scale.
He's an awesome looking model, and the wings add some considerable bulk to his dimensions - I'm already worried about transporting him around!

Chaos Space Marines Reborn

With the new colour scheme and army lists, I decided I needed to completely recreate my Chaos Space Marines army.

Here is the first unit of Chaos Space Marines, which I'll be proxying as Plague Marines. I mentioned earlier that I didn’t want to buy more models until I got my hands on the new codex, so the squad weapons don’t match my army lists – but that’s not really a problem, seeing as the guys at the club are really easy-going about proxying.

Another squad to go, the Chaos Daemon Prince, and my *new* army will be (legally) table-top ready!

In the Company of Daemons

As much as I love my Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer, I've got a new shiny to play with - a Chaos Daemon Prince that I can use to lead my Chaos Space Marines.

After acquiring this new addition to my Army List, I began doing some list building research and found that the combination of Daemon Prince and Plague Marines to be popular, so I came up with following first drafts (which I will no doubt tweak and modify while I build the army) 500 / 750 / 1000 lists to build up to:

With a new codex and starter set contents on the horizon I don't want to buy any more models, so these lists will involve a lot of proxying, which the guys at the local club are cool with :) I guess these lists and the army I build for them will be holding me over until the new Chaos Space Marine codex becomes available.

Chaos Space Marine Test Scheme

I know I said I wouldn't repaint the rest of Chaos Space Marines until a new codex came out, but I couldn't help myself! Looking at my new Chaos Sorcerer I had to give my troops the same treatment as well.
So this is the new colour scheme I came up with for my Chaos Space Marines. After painting this guy I immediately fell in love with the colour scheme, and decided that I'd paint the rest of the army like this too!

Chaos Sorcerer - Repainted

What started as a touch-up turned into an almost complete repaint. I'm quite happy with my new Chaos Sorcerer, and feel that he looks so much better than the the original colour scheme. My work on this guy has inspired me to repaint my current Chaos Space Marine army in light of 40k 6th Edition, but I'll wait until a new Chaos Space Marine codex is released before re-assembling and then repainting them.

The Black March Rises...

With my pledge to learn the Warhammer 40k 6th Edition rules, and become a more active wargamer at my local club, it was time to dust off one of my armies and get some games under my belt.

With rumours that Chaos Space Marines will be getting a new codex soon, as well as being included as part of the 6th Edition Starter Box, I decided that I would get my Chaos Space Marines tabletop ready.
I've poured through my Chaos Space Marine codex and took some notes from the 6th Edition Rulebook and came up with this 750 point list, which was somewhat limited by the current models I have:

I'd like to think that my painting ability has improved since I painted my Chaos Space Marines, so I'll be touching up my current units, and possibly adding more troops to bolster the ranks. I'll snap some photos of my 750 point army when it's done!

Black March - Psylarr the Wicked

I wanted a suitably villanous and powerful looking HQ for my Chaos Space Marines, and the Chaos Terminator Lord boxset provided great options for creating one.
I went for the Sorcerer cause I thought it fit in a little more thematically with the army I wanted, and using his little Familiar figure was something I couldn't pass up.

He just needed the sand applied to his basing (I'd already done the rocks), then it was sealed and painted. I touched up some metals here and there, but again nothing fancy.

That's my Black March Chaos Space Marines done! I'm still waiting on the delivery of my next 40K army, should only be a couple of days to go now - until then I'll be working on getting my Abyssal Dwarf army for Kings of War finished off!

Black March - The Ride

I kinda always thought that weathering and battle-damage were techniques way beyond my painting ability, but after watching a few videos online, I found the 'chipping' technique to be quite quick and easy to apply.

It was definitely a requirement on a Black Legion Rhino - after base coating it, it looked really dull and void of detail. I had only really base coated the Rhino prior to this, and had always been a little daunted at starting on it cause it was so big, but found it didn't take too long cause all I really had to do was a few highlights and detail.

Black March - The Carnage

Wanted a more 'gore' coloured red for my Berserkers, as opposed to a brighter Blood Angels style red, which I think I achieved here.
Cool thing about Black Legion is... well... there's a lot of black, which I didn't bother highlighting and left as a flat colour on all my troops to save time. I think they still look descent enough for the table-top though.

Now that their metals and basing are complete, they're ready to slay in the name of the Lord of Murder.

Black March - The Altered

After ordering the Chaos Space Marine battleforce, I read that the Possessed were a fairly sub-par unit on the table. I decided to mix and match pieces of the Possessed and my five remaining CSM to make a full 10 man Chaos Space Marine unit, with a daemonic theme to them.

As with my unit of The Purge, these guys needed their metals, basing and banner done.

Black March - The Purge

 

The first time I flicked through the Chaos Space Marine codex, The Purge jumped out at as a unit I just had to paint. The green and black colour combination looks great, and reading on, the theme behind the faction is great too. They're Nurgle, but not that disgusting type of Nurgle.

These guys needed their metals done for their backpacks and weapons, the Nurgle banner and their basing. Didn't take too long with the magic of Devlan Mud, and I'm happy with the standard of painting on these guys.

[40K] The Black March

The next army to get their finishing touches are my Black Legion Chaos Space Marines. They were the first army I bought into, as I was really drawn to the Chaos Space Marines because of the rich background and strong themes behind the army.

At those very early stages of my hobbying I wasn't really interested in wargaming, mainly just the painting and modelling elements - hence the units I bought don't make a particularly optimised list.
My initial purchase was the Battleforce, Chaos Terminators and Chaos Terminator Lord - just because I thought they looked cool.
I managed to pick up a bunch of other models second-hand or through trades, which I'll hopefully get around to finishing off some day.

So for now, my goal is just to finish off the units that I've almost completed, and hopefully one day I'll get around to starting on the other units I've acquired too.
