Malifaux - Guild Death Marshals Crew

In the last fortnight, a new LGS (Good Games Sydney CBD!) has opened up and I've been patiently waiting to see if a wargaming group would develop there. It looks like it has, and the primary games that they'll be playing are 40K, WHFB and Malifaux.
Being a big fan of skirmish games, this was my excuse to finally paint up an old Malifaux Starter Box I had lying around. I got these guys done fairly quickly, and now they're ready to take to the table-top!

Dreadball Forgefathers

I took some time out of my Kings of War Dwarf Army to paint up some of the Forgefather models from the Dreadball Kickstarter set. I've painted one of each of the Forgefather models (left to right: Jack, Striker, Guard) and I have to say that they are awesomely sculpted models and were an absolute pleasure to paint.
Well, like my Kings of War Dwarf Army, these guys will probably never see the table-top, but I'm still really happy with how they turned out.

Kings of War and Multibasing

Multibasing really suits the Kings of War ruleset. With the Big Battles, Big Armies motto of Mantic Games, multibasing has a lot of advantages:

• Easier movement of units on the table-top
• The potential to minimise the number of models you have to paint
• Less difficulty in ranking up your models
• More appreciation for the models beyond the first rank of troops
• The freedom to create fantastic dioramas for your units
• Easier transportation of models

Here are some examples of multibased units that Google Images found me (most just happened to be for Undead armies):

I'll definitely be pursuing the multibasing option for my Kings of War Dwarf army, mainly to minimise the number of models I have to paint. I mentioned previously this would be primarily a modelling project, and although I won't be aiming for anything as fancy as the fantastic examples above, I'm hoping that I'll be able to create an army I can be proud of, while still being functional on the table-top.

Kings of War Dwarf Army List - 1500 points

I've got my Kings of War Abyssal Dwarf Army - The Crypt Kings, still sitting on my shelf collecting dust and with no other Kings of War players in my area, it looks like they will never see the table-top.
No matter, I do enjoy the painting/modelling side of the hobby as well, so this project will primarily be a modelling project.
That being said, I don't like the idea of having a weak army sitting on my shelves (even if they don't ever see the table-top) so with a lot of help from the guys on the Mantic Forums (a special shout-out to Darklord and Jonathan Faulkes) I've come up with a base 1500 point Dwarf Army list, which I plan to expand to a tournament sized 1800 points when some dwarven cavalry units are available.

This list actually only comes to 1470 points,  and I plan on filling the last 30 points with undecided unit upgrades and magic items.

Alright, now that the units and models are decided, it's time to get building! I've already ordered some of the box sets and kits that I'll be using for my army, but I'll keep those a surprise until they actually arrive!

Back into Wargaming... Again.

It's been a while since I've even picked up a paintbrush or rolled a die, but a few recent personal activities have led me back to wargaming, and creating another fantasy army.

After a long absence from the hobby, spent with my PS3 and PC, I watched The Hobbit with a group of friends (a movie thoroughly enjoyed by all) and I found the faint embers of my love for fantasy glowing a little brighter.

Shortly afterwards, Christmas was upon me - and my brother was kind enough to invite me to reactivate my World of Warcraft account and join his guild and their adventures in Azeroth. This process involved a Realm and Faction change to join him - and after seeing The Hobbit only a few days past, of course I made my Horde Tauren into an Alliance Dwarf.

Finally, Defiant Gaming - my local Australian stockist, just received a shipment of a brilliant new Dwarf box set from Avatars of War: Dwarf Ironshields.

Well, that settled it. I wanted to create a fantasy Dwarf army and I wanted to make the army for Mantic Games' Kings of War! Their latest edition is proving very successful, and growing in popularity on the success of their recent Kings of War Kickstarter Project, and with free online rules, free army lists and wonderful community support, what's not to like?
Thing is, I already have an Abyssal Dwarf army... I guess have a soft spot for the stunties!

More to follow - I've got an army list (almost) finalised, so I'll post that up once I've confirmed it. Hopefully I can keep my motivation and follow through with this project... unlike some of the other fizzled projects on my blog...
